La Liga v. Manchester City & Paris: Based on the experience of the last 10 years, no use

The New York Times’ Tariq Panja commented on a statement issued today by la Liga officials that it has filed a complaint with Uefa accusing Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City of violating financial fair play rules.

The journalist wrote: “La Liga has filed a new complaint with UEFA alleging that Paris and Manchester City have repeatedly breached financial fair play rules. Barcelona are howling at the moon and UEFA has failed to address these allegations over the past decade.

“La Liga said it had also hired lawyers in Switzerland and Paris to take legal action against PSG in French courts and European Union institutions. The European Court of Justice is already busy with the Case of the European Premier League versus Uefa.”

“La Liga also took direct aim at Paris Saint-Germain president Gamal Nasser, whose conflicts of interest have been made public, who is also the owner of Qatar-owned Bein Sports (one of UEFA’s top clients) and who was parachuted in to become president of the European Club Association after the Premier League’s failure.”

“Both Manchester City and Paris have previously managed to overcome charges at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in different ways, which La Liga said was the result of some” strange decisions by the COURT of Arbitration for Sport “.

“If I were a betting man, it would be unlikely that la Liga’s legal action would result in any substantial change based on the past decade. Manchester City have successfully extended the premier League’s investigation into them into a fourth year and the Premier League is now swamped with paperwork.”

“Nasser and La Liga president Tebas are both members of uefa’s executive committee and the next meeting should be interesting. On a more serious note, perhaps, this could separate UEFA’s management from its functions as an event organiser. Again, it’s unlikely to happen, but it would be better for football.”
