Mahrez: Harland's position was played by Foden last season and I had to adapt to my partner

Manchester City attacker Mahrez has spoken about his team’s goals for the new season, saying the team really want to win again.

About winning the championship in the new season

Mahrez: “We really wanted to win again and when the season started we wanted to go again and that was a big motivation and we never thought: ‘This is going to be an easy year’ and we never thought we could take it easy. No, we will try 100 percent from the beginning because we want to win and we are built with that mentality.”

About the last game of last season

Mahrez: “On the last day, against Aston Villa, I just thought, what are we doing here? We were playing at home and we were 2-0 down against Villa. Sometimes you don’t feel good in a game, I didn’t feel good on the day, and some other guys came out and helped us win, and that’s what our team is all about.”

About the feeling in Man

Daniele MahREZ: “Manchester certainly feels like home and it’s hard to say because I’m from a completely different place, I’m from Paris and it’s very different from Manchester, but yes, my family is here and it’s like a home away from home. I am happy to stay here, I love this club and I have the best feeling here.

On what City have achieved in recent years

Mahrez: “I think what we have done in the last four or five years has been amazing. It would be great to go on and try to break the record. The Champions League is very detail-oriented, you know? Last season we deserved to get to the final and we didn’t, but I think we will be there again this season. The most important thing is to get to that stage, because that’s the hardest, and then when you’re there, it feels like you need a bit of luck, sometimes talent, sometimes you do something and we’ll take a look.”

About how long I can continue to play

“Listen, only the future will tell us what the situation is, but at the moment I feel good and I think I can still play for a long time because of the way I am and my body, but until you get to that age you don’t know how long you are going to play. I feel good at the moment and I don’t see myself losing rhythm or anything.”

“I’m low in body fat, I’m not that heavy, I’ve never missed a practice in my whole career, I’ve never been injured, it’s the little things that make you think maybe you can go on for a little bit longer, but you never know until you experience it.”

As for Harland’s arrival, does it change your game?

Mahrez: “Last season we had Foden up there a lot and he came in from a deeper position, so it was a different way of playing. But, throughout my career, I have always played with different strikers: there are big strikers and quick strikers, and it won’t change much. If I play with Vardy, I don’t play the same way I play with Foden, and you have to get used to that.”
